NINTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
July 13, 2008

WELCOME:
In our struggles with the enemies of the Church and the problems caused by this sin-tainted world we can feel overwhelmed and confused. But we are not alone. The Holy Spirit of God stands ready to help us when we pray so that we ask and receive only what is best from God. In the name of Jesus Christ who gave his all for us all we welcome our guests today. A nursery is available across from the entry way rest rooms in case there is a need for families with small children. Please sign our guest book and visit us again.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

Personal Prayers for Worship may be found on page 10 in the hymnal.

LITURGY: Holy Baptism/Service of the Word (page 12/39 in the front of the hymnal)

HYMNS: 300, 412, 411, 330
Organist--Pat Karnitz

OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: Joel 3:12-16
The Lord calls his enemies to assemble and advance. Let them do what they will. He sits on his throne and he is the Judge. The forces of darkness are many, but their destruction is as sure as the fall of ripe grain before a sickle or grapes under a press. For those who trust in the Lord, he is their shelter and refuge.

PSALM: 18 page 69 in the front of the hymnal

EPISTLE LESSON: Romans 8:26,27
When God's saints are suffering, sometimes they don't know what to pray. Here we have the gracious promise that God the Holy Spirit prays on our behalf! With such a perfect petition prayed for us, we can be sure that God's good and gracious will is done!

GOSPEL LESSON: Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43
In righteous zeal, Jesus' followers have been tempted to destroy the enemies of God's Church. In this parable Jesus demonstrates why his church must never use the sword. First of all, we may destroy believers together with unbelievers. Secondly, final judgment of the wicked belongs to God and his angels on the Last Day.

SERMON: Romans 8:26,27 "You've God a Prayer"
1. The Spirit knows your weakness.
2. The Spirit intercedes for you.
