TENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
July 20, 2008

WELCOME:
Many of God's richest blessings are hidden from plain sight. The blessings of forgiveness and eternal life are hidden in the gospel in Word and Sacrament. The blessings of God's directing the daily events in our lives are not immediately understood and may not be realized till we reach paradise. Yet faith trusts God's promise to work all things for good to those who love him. In the name of Jesus Christ who gave his all for us, we welcome our guests today. A nursery is available across from the entry way rest rooms in case there is a need for families with small children. Please sign our guest book and visit us again.

ORDER OF WORSHIP

Personal Prayers for Worship may be found on page 10 in the hymnal.

LITURGY: Service of the Word and Sacrament (page 26 in the front of the hymnal)

HYMNS: 586, 414, 386, 309, *148
Organist--Sharon Brinkman

OLD TESTAMENT LESSON: 1 Kings 3:5-12
The Lord offered King Solomon whatever he wanted. Solomon did not ask for the earthly props in which the world places its trust. He was struck by his solemn, God-given responsibility and his own inability. Solomon first sought God's kingdom by asking for a heart that would lead God's people God's way. God granted his prayer and added everything he had not asked for as well.

PSALM: 119b page 110 in the front of the hymnal
EPISTLE LESSON: Romans 8:28-30
Before he created us, God knew us and destined us to be his. In this life he called us to faith by the gospel and justified us. Even now there are no accidents in life, no blind twists of fate. God turns Satan's evil into good for those who love him. God's ultimate destination for us is to live with him in heaven!

GOSPEL LESSON: Matthew 13:44-52
The parables of the hidden treasure and the pearl show us the inestimable value of the kingdom of heaven. The trusting heart will joyfully sacrifice everything to keep from being separated from it. God's kingdom, like a net, attracts both believers and pretenders. How precious our faith in Christ is as we prepare for our final destination--heaven.

SERMON: Romans 8:28-30 "Accept God's Plan for Your Life"
1. He remembers your destination.
2. He always follows through.

HOLY COMMUNION: Our worship service is open to all. However, the Bible teaches that the Lord’s Supper is to be received by those who have been instructed about its meaning and the unity it expresses. For this reason we ask that guests speak with the pastor before partaking of the Holy Supper. If you have not yet been instructed in the teachings of the Bible, we invite you to participate in a Bible Information Class. This class will prepare you to receive the Lord’s Supper with us. Please contact Pastor Klatt about class times.
