RAISING HEARTS IN JESUS BUILDING CAMPAIGN UPDATE
Fifty-four families and have made three-year building fund commitments totaling $609,847.  Praise God for blessing us with the means and the desire to support the work of his kingdom in this way!
The latest cost estimate of our proposed building expansion is between 2.3 and 2.5 million dollars.  With the continual rise in construction costs, this is a moving target.   The Building Committee is working with the general contractor to reduce costs as much as possible.  Based on what has already been given and pledged by February 28th will likely need $75,000 – $100,000 in cash on hand as a down payment to obtain a building loan.  Praise God for bringing us within closing distance of our goal!

Members who haven't indicated the amount of their commitment they are able to donate by February 28, 2019 are urged to do so by Sunday, January 13th.  This is necessary for us to obtain financing for our new construction.  If you haven't made a commitment to the building campaign you may still do so.  Simply request a commitment form from the church office.

May God's love for us in Christ, who freed us from our sins, continue fill our hearts with the joy of salvation and the joy of spreading the good news of his love to all ages and nations!

YEAR END MINISTRY BUDGET FINISHES IN THE BLACK
Once again we praise our gracious and generous God for giving us the means and desire to support our gospel ministry budget at Holy Trinity.  By God’s grace the congregation finances finished the year with a positive balance of $4,100.  May the Lord continue to strengthen and equip us to Share Jesus Christ with All Ages and Nations!

2018 CONGREGATION BUDGET UPDATE   God has richly blessed us with the knowledge of Jesus and saving faith in him as our Savior.  On top of that he has given us the privilege of sharing his love on a daily basis with children and their families through our child care and school ministries. Balancing our 2018 operating budget is a vital part of obtaining financing for the building addition which will give us the capacity us to share the love of Jesus with 100 more children each school day.  As indicated in our treasurer's notes below, generous grace-filled general fund support for the month of December will allow us to take another step toward our planned building expansion.
  1. General Fund receipts are approximately $20,000 behind a break even pace for the year. The school and child care are on pace to meet their revised budgeted revenues.
  2. Year to date expenses are very nearly in line with revised budgeted expectations, indeed we may finish the year spending slightly less than forecast.
  3. Net revenues are only $12,000 behind total expenditures for the year. December presents us with a strong opportunity to close the current deficit for a couple of reasons. First, there are no special quarterly or large one time expenditures projected to occur in the month. Second, there will be five weekly deposits in December.  Third, there are a number of special services, as well as additional gifts over and above normal weekly giving that tend be received through member generosity in December.
  4. The Antioch Grant is currently being separately tracked and held in the main checking account. There are $1,500 of proceeds from the bake sale which have not yet been received. We are less than $2,000 away from qualifying for the full $40,000 matching grant. Once all these funds are in hand we will place them into a designated account.
  5. The current unrestricted balance deficit can be erased with a strong outpouring of support in December. Finishing the year with strong financial results will weigh favorably on our ability to secure a loan for the building project. We are well within striking distance of a third positive year for general fund performance.
  6. With just a little extra push by all of us working together, we should be able to get there, and may even be able to eliminate this negative unrestricted balance as well.

* As we enter the Advent season and celebrate the arrival of the world's Savior, the greatest gift mankind has ever known, may God motivate us all to cheerfully continue to support   with our time, talents, and resources the work we are accomplishing to His glory. Together, we have shared God's grace with hundreds of souls, may we all rejoice in this success!

BUDGET UPDATE: We will need approximately $11,000 each week from now until the end of the year to balance our 2018 ministry budget.  May God’s gift of his Son, Jesus, to be our Savior move us to respond in love and generosity as we joyfully Share Jesus Christ with All Ages and Nations!

CHRISTMAS 2018  One-million souls. That is the goal. To share the gospel with one-million souls prior to and on Christmas Eve. That goal is part of WELS Congregational Services’ C18 program. A simple way to do that—invite them to come with your family to our Christmas Eve worship service. Christmas invitation business cards are available as you leave worship this morning.  Take as many as you need to distribute to Friends, Relatives, Associates and Neighbors.  May the Lord bless our labors to spread the good news of Jesus’ birth!!

HE CAME AS A LAMB--HE WILL COME AS A LION  Did you know the Bible calls Jesus both a lamb and a lion?  Though he was the almighty and eternal Son of God, at his first coming Jesus was like a lamb.  He put aside the use and full display of his glory to become the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.  When he returns it will not be in quietness and humility, but with trumpet blasts and glorious fanfare.  He will return as the conquering Lion of Judah to gather his own to his eternal kingdom and banish his enemies to everlasting darkness.  Join us for two mid-week Advent services
(6:30 PM, Dec. 12th) to learn of and praise Jesus our Lamb and Lion.

BUDGET UPDATE: We will need approximately 10,000 each week from now until the end of the year to make our budget. May God move our hearts so we can continue to Share Jesus with All Ages and Nations!

CHRISTMAS 2018  One-million souls. That is the goal. To share the gospel with one-million souls prior to and on Christmas Eve. That goal is part of WELS Congregational Services’ C18 program. The only way to achieve that goal is for all WELS members, young and old, to embrace the privilege and responsibility of sharing Christ with unchurched friends, relatives, and neighbors. A simple way to do that—invite them to come with your family to our Christmas Eve worship service. A recent survey found that 80% of unchurched adults would seriously consider accepting an invitation, extended by a friend, to attend a Christmas Eve service. Christmas Eve invitation business cards will be made available to Holy Trinity members beginning December 2nd.  Start thinking of someone you can invite to hear the good news of God's greatest gift--his Son!!

ADVENT SERMON SERIES   He Comes, Bearing GiftsHope-Peace-Joy-Love  Secular Christmas songs sing of a fictional Santa Claus bringing gifts to the nice and leaving the naughty with a lump of coal.  A gift that is earned is really not a gift, is it?  As Christians we sing of a real gift from a real God.  Though we qualify as naughty to the core, God has given us what we have not and cannot earn--his Son, Jesus.  Jesus is the gift that brings gifts: hope, peace, joy, love.  During the season of Advent (December 2-23) we will explore each of these unconditional gifts from Jesus our Savior!

To learn more about Scrip and its huge fundraising potential and tuition rebate program, contact Pat Karnitz at 952-836-5711 or jkarnitz@comcast.net.

RAISING HEARTS IN JESUS BUILDING CAMPAIGN UPDATE   The latest cost estimate of our proposed building expansion is between 2.1 and 2.4 million dollars.  The Building Committee is working with the general contractor to reduce costs as much as possible.  We will likely need $425,000 cash on hand as a down payment to obtain a building loan.  With this in mind members who made commitments are asked to indicate within the next two weeks the amount they are able to contribute by February 28.  If you haven't made a commitment to the building campaign you may still do so.  Simply request a form from the church office.

 ANTIOCH GRANT STATUS UPDATE
In 2017, the school applied for and won a grant from the Antioch Foundation to set up an endowment for tuition assistance. We need to raise $40,000 on our own to qualify for a $40,000 matching grant from the Antioch Foundation.   We are very pleased to announce that, due to generous incoming donations and the recent church bake sale, we have raised $38,247 at last count!!! So we have less than $2000 to go. We hope to be over the top by the end of 2018 so we can claim our grant!   We very much appreciate your support as we work to improve and expand our school, while keeping it affordable for our school families.

2018 GENERAL FUND UPDATE:  By God’s grace we are another step closer to expanding our educational facilities to further Share Jesus Christ with All Ages and Nations.  To qualify for a building loan our congregation general fund must have a positive balance at the end of the year.  Estimated General Fund need for year-end break even = $330,000.  General Fund YTD through Oct. = $248,904.   Weekly goal for break even after Nov 18th: $10,100 (6 weeks remaining)
Weekly deposits for November:
Nov 4th - $8,577
Nov 11th - $5,400
Nov 18th - $6,520

2018 GENERAL AND BuILDING FUND BUDGET UPDATE  By God’s grace we are another step closer to expanding our educational facilities to Share Jesus Christ with All Ages and Nations.  There are two important factors for us to qualify for a building loan:
  1. Our 2018 general fund budget breaks even.  $67,000 is needed over the next seven weeks – $9,500/week. This is one and a half times our average weekly general fund giving year to date.
  2. We have an estimated $350,000 in cash for a down payment. In order to achieve this, we would need at least 65% of the total pledged dollar amounts to be submitted by February 28th. The remaining portion of each commitment can be split equally between the following two July-June school years. (15% of total pledges have been made so far)

THANKSGIVING DAY WORSHIP SERVICE   What if your life was exceptionally challenging and painful this past year?  Do you still have reason to give thanks to God.  Join us for worship Thanksgiving Day to learn we don’t give thanks in spite of our troubles, we can actually be thankful for them.  Come hear the good news of God’s amazing love for you and to praise him at 9:00 AM Thanksgiving Day.

AFRICAN STYLE LITURGY   The Lutheran liturgy has its roots in historic Christianity.  It proclaims both law and gospel and includes sacramental (God giving to us through word and sacrament) and sacrificial (our giving to God through praise, offerings, and prayers) elements.  The melodies of the sung responses in the liturgy often reflect the culture where it is used.  In recent years, people of African heritage have become part of our church family.  What a blessing!  To enrich our worship and reflect African heritage through the liturgy Pastor Terry Schultz (a former missionary) will present a workshop at Holy Trinity November 10th from 9:00 – Noon.  That Sunday, November 11th, African style liturgical responses will be included in the 10:00 AM worship service, with Pastor Schultz serving as the accompanist.  Pastor Schultz will also share a presentation on ethnomusicology in worship during morning adult Bible study hour.  All are welcome to attend.

BUILDING COMMITTEE UPDATE & OPEN FORUM  Following worship next Sunday, January 20th representatives of the Building Committee will provide an update regarding our Raising Hearts in Jesus Building Campaign.  There will also be a time for questions and answers afterward.

ANNUAL VOTERS MEETING  Sunday, January 27th the annual voters’ meeting will be held in the church fellowship hall.  At this meeting the Building Committee will be requesting approval to move forward with the proposed building expansion.  We will also adopt a ministry budget for 2019 as well as elect congregation officers and board members.  This is a very important meeting.  All members are encouraged to attend the meeting, participate in discussion and ask questions.

NEW WELS RESOURCE  The audio version of WELS Daily Devotion can now be added to Amazon Alexa’s “Flash Briefing” function. If you have an Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, etc. you can set up a “flash briefing” that plays through a list of available items, or “skills” of your choosing.  You can now add WELS Daily Devotion to that lineup. Each day WELS provides a 3 to 5-minute devotion based on a Bible passage. These devotions are written by WELS pastors across the country and globe. They are then “read” by a few individuals within the WELS Congregational Services team. What a great way to put technology to work for you as you sit over your morning coffee or get ready for work. In your Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone (or https://alexa.amazon.com on your computer) go to settings, then Flash Briefing, then “add content.” You can then search for “WELS Daily Devotion.”

BABY SHOWER  Please join us for a baby shower being held in honor of Deanne Gorzalski on Tuesday, January 29th at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.   She is registered at Target.  We ask that you sign up on the entry way bulletin board if you are attending.
Many thanks, Cindy Klatt
